WELCOME TO MAINE:

Maine is home to some of New England’s most charming coastal towns and scenic views that even the National Geographic would envy. If you have been itching to road trip to the Vacationland, look no further than this trail guide. Discover activities from hikes in the deep forest and rugged landscapes of Maine’s Midcoast to the electric and vibrant nightlife of Maine’s beach towns.

Places to Eat:

DUCKFAT: Don’t miss visiting this place if you make it up to Portland. This small, hip sandwich shop nestled away in Portland is the perfect spot to clink a few beers and enjoy their signature fries cooked in… (you guessed it) duck fat.

Holy Donut: If you’re worried about your figure, be prepared to have a cheat day. These potato-based doughnuts are glazed in eccentric flavors such as peppermint chocolate, maple bacon, and honey lavender. Whether you are adventurous or old-fashioned, there will be a delicious doughnut for you! Be sure to get here early because the shop closes once all the doughnuts are sold out!

Places to ROVM:

Wiggly Bridge: Tucked away across a jetty and into Maine’s lush forests, this simple yet intriguing bridge is the smallest suspension bridge in America. At first glance, the Wiggly Bridge may be dismissed due to its trivial size. But don’t count it out! There is a 1.4 mile walk with a variety of terrains accompanied by wood and water views.

Fort Williams Park: With over 90 acres of recreational land, Fort Williams Park is a nature lover’s playground. Come to nestle in for a nap, stroll hiking paths, walk the cliff side loop, and roam the rocky shoreline. If you’re hungry, be sure to grab a bite at one of the three local vendor food trucks.

The Nubble Lighthouse: If you’re looking to get in your classic New England lighthouse fix or a picture perfect postcard, look no further than one or the most picturesque locations in Maine: Nubble. With a rocky coastline ideal for picnicking and cracking open a ROVM, the Nubble Lighthouse sits proudly on the summit of the Cape Nedick Bubble facing the Atlantic. Although the lighthouse is not accessible to the public, it can be photographed and enjoyed from the park.

Places to Go Out:

Oxbow Brewing and Blending Company: Tucked away in Newcastle, Maine, Oxbow is brewing up authentic farmhouse ale inspired by the rolling hills and winding rivers of Maine’s coast. Cross country skiers and snowshoers flock to Oxbow to enjoy their funky, hoppy pale ales in the large tasting room in the wintertime and tourists and vacationers relax and explore the scenic views of rural Maine in Oxbow Beer Garden in the wintertime.

Sand Dollar Bar and Grille: Come to this family-friendly restaurant to enjoy a casual dining experience in the bar, balcony, or dining room. Enjoy live music and be prepared to transport yourself back decades as you sing along to your favorite 90s hits during Karaoke with Joe in a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.

Places to See:

Longfellow Bookstore: Looking for a rainy day activity? Cozy up with a good book and get lost for a while at the Longfellow Bookstore in downtown Maine. From historical fiction to mystery, this quirky bookstore is filled with classics you won’t want to put down.

Old Orchard Beach: With an iconic 500-foot long pier and seven mile long stretch of sandy coastline in one of Maine’s premier beach towns, there is something for everyone here! Come to let out your inner-child at the Palace Playground, New England’s only beachfront amusement park with over 25 rides (including a Ferris wheel) and stay for the several boating companies that charter lobster and rafting tours.
